Ladies, this one is for you. If you're going to be at least 25 weeks pregnant some time after 6 April 2009, be sure to claim your one-off, tax-free payment of £190 from HMRC. This is called a Health in Pregnancy Grant, and is designed to help you prepare financially for the birth of your child. £190 doesn't exactly go that far anymore, but it's better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.
To qualify for the grant:
- your due date needs to be on or after 6th April 2009
- you need to have been given health advice from a midwife or doctor (one of them must fill in their part of the form and sign it before giving it to you).
A Health in Pregnancy Grant won’t affect your tax credits or any other benefits and best of all it's not means based, so it's available to every mum. Oh and the government are very keen to give you your grant, so keen in fact that they've set up a free SMS or email reminder to help you remember to make your claim when the time comes.
And be sure to look around the rest of the Money 4 Mum 2 Be site to see what other grants and benefits you and your enlarged family are entitled to.
